This event will be off the record and follow the Chatham House Rule.
China-EU relations have been enhanced with new dynamism and dimensions over the past 45 years. In 2019, the bilateral trade was worth 300 times as much as 45 years ago. 2020 was meant to be a "special" year for EU-China relations, with a raft of high-level meetings and summits on the agenda and the Comprehensive Investment Agreement near completion, but this was before the world was engulfed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, a high level of tensions: strategic, economic, political... are growing day after day. "These tensions are not conducive to the cooperative spirit that we need today in order to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic and prepare a global recovery," Said by Nicolas Chapuis, the European Union's ambassador to China. It is believed that as a third party, the EU's voice "is more than ever necessary" and that it could be key in providing multilateral solutions.
In face with the uncertainty brought by global economy depression, escalating conflicts between China and the United States, among others, what is the future of China-EU bilateral relationship? How to co-provide the multilateral solutions? What is the role of the coming EU-China Summit in June and the one in Leipzig? How likely the CAI could be signed this year?
With these questions, we are delighted to have a distinguished speaker, Madam Fu Ying, Chairperson of Centre for International Security and Strategy, Tsinghua University (CISS), Vice-Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China’s 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) and former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, to have an exclusive and closed-door dialogue with European Chamber members and share her insight and wisdom.
This event will be in English with no translation services.
