On 23rd February, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Sustainable Corporate Governance. After China’s proposal for a ‘Global Data Security Initiative’ in September 2020, China has stepped up its cyber-related legislation in 2021 with an unprecedented speed. This is especially reflected through the promulgation of two data related superordinate laws that will work together with the Cybersecurity Law: one is the Data Security Law (DSL), which came into effect since 1st September 2021, and the other being the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), to be enacted on 1st November 2021.
