The success of the Mergers & Acquisitions meeting held in Shanghai on 19 October set a strong precedent and we urge you to take an active part in the Beijing Finance & Taxation Working Group's activities. A provisional schedule of upcoming Finance & Taxation Working Group meetings in 2005 is also attached for your reference and early planning.
Of particular note, one of our key objectives over the coming year will be to engage in a constructive dialogue with relevant Chinese authorities so as to jointly identify and develop concrete solutions to regulatory issues of common concern. A delegation representing the Beijing and Shanghai Working Groups met on 12 November with senior officials from SAT as a first step toward establishing regular contact and promoting a more flexible, coherent and integrated set of Chinese taxation, finance and accounting rules in line with international best practices.
