Dear Working Group Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next Joint Legal & Competition working group meeting. It will be held on Monday, 01 December, 4:00pm-5:30pm, at the European Chamber offices.
The past years have seen an important increase in the number of cases of companies prosecuted for corruption. The Chinese government is determined in bringing forward its campaign to fight bribery and corruption, which is directly affecting foreign invested companies in China. Some of the penalties imposed in these cases became the biggest amount ever imposed by a Chinese court and criminal punishments were handed down to foreign executives.
Our speaker, Mr. Harry Liu, Partner at King & Wood Mallesons, is an expert in Compliance and has been involved in some of these famous cases. He will talk about the key take-aways focusing on the messages from the government, prosecutors and other parties involved. During his presentation, he will show how common and “legal” practices in Western countries might be treated differently in China. It’s time to adjust the way of doing business in China.
