About European Day
On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organized Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. The proposal, known as the “Schuman Declaration” is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union. The 9th of May has become a European symbol (European Day), which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the Euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union. European Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and people.
1950年5月9日，罗贝尔·舒曼为了维护不可或缺的和平关系，提出建议一个有组织的欧洲。这个后来称为“舒曼宣言”的提议被认为是建议如今欧盟的开始。 因此，除了旗帜、歌曲、座右铭和单一货币（欧元）代表了欧洲联盟的政治实体之外，5月9日同样成为了欧洲标志（欧洲日）。通过欧洲日举办的活动和庆祝，使欧洲人民走得更近。
