Overview:
After three decades of unprecedented economic growth, China is now the world’s second largest economy and largest exporter. Now the nation looks to parlay its status as factory of the world into the role of innovator for the world. Doing so will require overcoming unique hurdles anddeepening global engagement and integration—politically, economically and culturally.China’s economic power, pace of change and scale mean that its course of development will have profound global implications.
In this special anniversary forum, China and the World, we hear from business and government thought leaders about China’s geopolitical and business development over the coming ten years and how it and its companies can contribute to solving the pressing challenges of tomorrow.

Summary:
As driver of the eastward and southward shift in global economic gravity, China’s dizzying economic ascent has commanded the world’s attention. But the country faces challenges integrating its businesses, financial systems, diplomatic mechanisms and culture on a regional and global level.From a business perspective, Chinese companies are growing into world-class engines of innovation but a relatively small proportion of themhave expanded globally—with no major Chinese international luxury brands or global retail chains.
Our panel of experts examines China and its companies’ place in the global context of emerging markets, the strategic direction laid out by the 12th five-year plan and the key decisions that the new government leadership and rising business leaders will face in China’s economic, political and cultural engagement with the world.
