The recent outbreak of labour unrest all over China, but particularly in Guangdong province, has made front-page headlines around the world. The question now facing companies is: what should companies do in the face of a workforce that may become much more aggressive in asserting its rights and making demands for higher wages? In order to help companies prepare for this challenge, Jonathan Isaacs from Baker & McKenzie will give a presentation on and answer any audience questions on the following issues:
Ø What companies can do if strikes and other labour disturbances occur
Ø Role of unions in labour disputes
Ø Should companies reconsider their union avoidance strategies?
Ø Will collective bargaining become the norm in private companies?
Ø What the options are for dealing with increasing labour costs.
