There are two Chinas. The first is dynamic, an amazing story of how talented ambition is fueling the most important story of the 21st century. The second China, however, is less inspiring. Conventionalism trumps innovation. Which side will, in the end, win?
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to present Tom Doctoroff and Richard Hsu who will explore the tension between progress and stagnation in contemporary China.
Tom Doctoroff, JWT Northeast Asia Area Director and Greater China CEO, will approach this question from a psychological angle. In his agency's presentation, The Journey of Chinese Men: Embracing the Mandate of Heaven, Tom will uncover the differences between the definition of success in the Middle Kingdom versus most European and North American countries. He will outline how, throughout life, challenges to conventional order militate against Western-style innovation. He will then translate these insights into cases of successful positioning strategies employed by both local and multinational marketers. His conclusion -- i.e., creative thinking in the PRC must be approached with an understanding of a very different Chinese world view -- will both engage and provoke.
The second speech is named Empty Closet, Open Mind and will be presented by Richard Hsu. Hsu, previously the Executive VP of Wieden+Kennedy Advertising, has recently opened a branding consultancy office named h+ in Shanghai. Hsu will look into the possibilities and opportunities for local and international companies to help contribute to China?? development and growth as they advance their strong businesses in China.
