The European Chamber Tianjin Chapter is very pleased to invite M. Jens Ewert, Regional Partner Aisa Pacific - European Clients from Deloitte, who will present us his views on "Chinese tax rules: toward a safer environment ?".
The implementation of the Enterprise Income Tax Law in 2008 was one of the most remarkable evolutions of the Chinese tax legislation within the past few years. However, it was only an element of the modernization of the whole tax system, with the introduction of major international tax standards and concepts (thin capitalization, transfer pricing, VAT, etc.) and the renegotiation of significant tax treaties (Hong-Kong, Singapore, Mauritius, Barbados...). Nonetheless, the tax environment may not be totally safe yet, notably because of a strong will from tax authorities to keep taxable profit in China, the enforcement of tougher regulations regarding flows and a general repression of tax avoidance. The presentation will briefly retrace the evolution that has taken place for the past two years, and outline the new challenges foreign companies are now facing in China.
Speaker:
Jens is a long time observer of China and European companies in this market. He is based since 2002 in Shanghai.
