Dear Working Group Members,
The Finance & Taxation and Petrochemicals, Chemicals & Refining Working Groups are pleased to invite you to the meeting “Consumption Tax in China: Where Things Stand”, which is taking place on Wednesday, November 18th, 10:30-12:00 (China time), both online (via Zoom) and on-site at the European Chamber’s Shanghai office.
While China’s high Consumption Tax (CT) on refined oil products risks impairing the attractiveness of the petrochemical industry to investors, inconsistent mineral-oil content definitions by local customs and tax authorities constitute a major source of uncertainty for manufacturers.
At this meeting, Kenneth Leung, Greater China Indirect Tax Leader at Ernst & Young (bio attached), will review the current CT regime and will analyse the impact of CT reform implementation on business. Kenneth Leung’s presentation will be followed by a case-sharing by Dr Martin Schmidt-Amelunxen, General Manager Technology, and Shirley Song, Head of Finance, of Klüber Lubrication Industries (bios attached), whose experience with and approach to CT filing will facilitate decision-making among industry players in petrochemicals.
