Mr. Matias Zubimendi is the IP Business Advisor at China IP SME Helpdesk in Beijing, where he advises European SMEs on intellectual property rights matters. Mr. Zubimendi holds a Master’s degree in Chinese Civil and Commercial Law from Peking University as well as a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law from Austral University in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation. Mr. Zubimendi has a strong background in both business development and intellectual property rights protection, having previously worked as a China Business and Legal Consultant at Terragene, where he focused on business development and as a Director of Legal Affairs at Conquer Europe. Previously, he has also worked as a Patent and Trademark Attorney at Phoebus Abogados and Mazzeo & Canet, where he represented SMEs as well as Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Zubimendi has given lectures at various conferences including the Ibero-American Conference on Chinese Studies and published several articles including “The legal protection of intangibles in the video games industry”. As a Professor Assistant, he has also given lectures on Commercial Law and Procedural law, while focusing on Copyright and AI in his research. Mr. Zubimendi is a native Spanish speaker fluent in English.

Filippo is an Italian qualified lawyer, as senior associate in GWA - Greatway Advisory he is assisting European companies in PRC and Chinese companies in Italy in transnational matters related to Intellectual Property rights, International Commercial Law & Arbitration and M&A. Before was a legal advisor in Italian law firm with offices in China, representing major Chinese companies (including SOEs) in matters connected with international commercial disputes, IPR and M&A.

Currently Filippo serves as National Chair of the Intellectual Property Working Group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

He studied and worked in China since 2009, he holds a Master's degree in law at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, visiting student at China Political Science and Law University. Recently he contributed to the draft of legal guide for foreign companies in PRC issued by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, has been a speaker in both Chinese and Italian law universities and co-authored and published articles regarding matters related to PRC Intellectual Property and Commercial law in professional publications and in some of the most prominent Italian financial and legal newspapers.

He is member of the Italian Bar Association, Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (YICCA) and the European China Law Study Association (ECLS).

Reinout van Malenstein is the National Vice-Chair of the IPR Working Group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

Reinout is Senior Counsel at HFG Law & Intellectual Property in China (Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and is based in Shanghai. He advises companies on trademarks, copyright, patents, trade secrets, technology transfer, contracts and corporate law in China. Reinout has also worked on intellectual property for the European Commission in Greater China. Before that he was the head of the China practice at a leading Dutch law firm and a lawyer in the Netherlands on intellectual property at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Reinout is currently the secretary of MARQUES China team. He regularly publishes articles on IP and speaks at both national and international conferences on IP. He holds a Master of Laws degree in Netherlands and EU IP law from Utrecht University and a Master of Laws degree in Chinese IP law from Peking University.

Quentin Bottasso is a Legal Consultant at Zhong Lun Law Firm Guangzhou Office with a strong focus on advising international companies on the Chinese legal and regulatory system. Quentin has deep expertise and experience with regard to various aspects of Chinese law, particularly contract, labor, intellectual property and commercial law, and his ability to understand his clients’ expectations and requirements makes him a valuable partner for those conducting business activities in China.

His fluency in English and French and professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and Italian, along with his understanding of Western and Chinese law and culture, are key elements to the successful relationships he has cultivated with his clients. His clientele are composed of mostly European companies in the industrial, sourcing, manufacturing, and wine industries.

In addition to his client work, Quentin has contributed to a number of publications on Chinese law, lectured at the joint International MBA program of MIT and Sun Yat-sen University, and constantly works on enhancing his technical knowledge and judgement in order to serve his clients better.

Before taking up his role as a Legal Consultant at Zhong Lun, Quentin worked in the same position at United & Way Law Firm in Guangzhou. He holds both a Bachelor of Laws and Master of Chinese Business Law from Aix-Marseille University in Southern France, and has studied Chinese law at the prestigious South West University of Political Science and Law in Chongqing, China.
