Dear Members of Legal and Competition Working Group,
The Legal and Competition Working Group is pleased to invite you to its next working group meeting, taking place on Tuesday 9 April, 14:00-16:00n both Beijing and Shanghai office via videoconference facility.
On 15th March, the National People’s Congress of China has approved the Foreign Investment Law, which will become effective on 1st January 2019. This Law will change the legal framework for foreign investment in China. To better understand its impacts on the foreign business, we are delighted to invite Ms. Nancy Zhang, Partner of Junhe Law Firm to share with us her insights on this matter.Ms. Zhang has insights in critical areas relating to mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring transactions in China and has helped clients design creative transaction structures to maximize their interests. She is also recognised as one of China's foremost lawyers in 'Who's Who Legal: M&A and Governance' in 2017 and 2018
With this occasion, we will also discuss the 2019 Legal and Competition Working Group priorities, discuss its Position Paper outline, and host this year’s Chair elections. The Chair shall play a key role in driving the development of the Group. With support from the Chamber secretariat, he or she shall promote the Group’s activities and communicate targeted messages on behalf of industry to policy makers and key stakeholders in China and Europe. The Chair shall also serve as spokesperson to raise the Group’s visibility in the media and at relevant events when appropriate. The Vice Chairs shall play a supporting role to the Chair of the Group. The Vice Chairs assist the Chair when needed in driving the development of the Group and can also represent the Group in communicating messages to policy makers and stakeholders in China and Europe. In the absence of the Chair, the Vice Chairs shall take over the responsibilities of the Chair. A further email containing the bios and motivation letters of all chair candidates will be circulated prior to the elections. Voting for the elections, one vote per company, must be conducted in person at the working group meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run for election. The duration of the term for both the Chair and the Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the attached Code of Conduct.
