Mr. Laurence Barron
Laurence Barron has been at Airbus for over thirty two years; he joined the company in 1982, as an in-house lawyer specialising in aircraft finance; after ten years as an international commercial lawyer in Paris, Tokyo and then in-house at Airbus, he moved to the business side when, in 1984, he was appointed Sales Finance Director North America, becoming Head of Sales Finance in 1985, and then, in 1987, Vice President Customer Finance. In 1994, he was asked to set up the Asset Management Organisation within Airbus and that year became Vice President and Head of Asset Management. In 2001, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Airbus.
In January 2013, Laurence was appointed Chairman of EADS China, now rebranded Airbus Group China. The Airbus Group has three main divisions, all of which are represented in China: Airbus, Airbus Helicopters (previously Eurocopter) and Airbus Defense and Space (the result of the merger of Astrium, Cassidian and Airbus Military).
Laurence graduated from Bristol University Law Faculty (1973 - LLB), Barrister-at-law England and Wales (1974 - Member of Middle Temple), ex-Conseil Juridique (1977-1982 - Paris, France), ex-Foreign Law Consultant (1978-1982 - Tokyo, Japan).
Mr. Darren Burns
As President of Weber Shandwick China, Darren Burns has spearheaded the agency’s growth and transformation into one of the region’s most exciting and forward thinking integrated communications agencies. Burns received the Australia China Alumni Award for Corporate Achievement in 2015, and was named Most Influential PR Leader at the 2014 China Business & Media Leaders’ Forum.
A strategic communications veteran of 18 years, Burns breadth of experience extends from launching new companies and initiatives to guiding brands and industry leaders through a range of high profile, mission-critical situations, including food safety, product recalls and labor relations issues.
Prior to being appointed President in 2014, Burns had helmed Weber Shandwick China as Managing Director since 2012. He joined as Managing Director of the firm’s Shanghai and Guangzhou operations 2006. Before that, Burns was Managing Director of GolinHarris in Taiwan. He started his career in Asia as a journalist, marketing consultant and business communications instructor in 1996.
Burns holds two undergraduate degrees in international business management and Asian studies from Griffith University in Australia, and has completed executive education at Harvard Business School. Burns is also a lecturer at China’s Fudan University where he delivers a Master’s course on strategic communications. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Burns is a regular industry commentator in Chinese and regional press.
Mr. Patrick Horgan
Patrick Horgan is Regional Director North-East Asia for Rolls-Royce, covering Greater China, Japan and Korea, based in Beijing.
His background spans business, diplomacy and cultural relations, with Asia and China experience dating back more than 25 years. Previously, he was managing director of an international corporate advisory firm in China, advising leading MNCs on direct investment and policy issues, both in China and in other Asian emerging markets. Prior to that, Patrick worked at Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong from 1994-1998.
He has been involved in the EUCCC since its formation, including chairing the IT & Telecommunications Working Group for several years and serving on the Executive Committee from 2012-2014 as State Representative.
He served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in China (2004-06).
He is a graduate of Oxford University and a Mandarin speaker.
