Addressed in the Roundtable Discussion with Director General of Guangdong Department of Commerce

On March 7th, Lynn Wu, the Business and Government Affairs Manager of the European Chamber South China Chapter, participated in a routable discussion organised by the Guangdong Department of Commerce in collaboration with European and American organisations. The event was focused on enhancing cooperation and understanding between these entities.

During the meeting, Lynn Wu had the opportunity to engage in discussions with Mr Zhang Jinsong, the Director General of the Guangdong Department of Commerce. Lynn shared insights regarding the advocacy efforts undertaken by the European Chamber on behalf of European companies. She highlighted forthcoming publications slated for release this year, designed to provide valuable insights and resources for both members and government stakeholders.

Lynn also addressed a critical issue during the discussion, pointing out the existing gap between the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Preferential Individual Income Tax (IIT) policy and its practical implementation. She emphasised that this gap could potentially impact the business confidence of foreign talents in making investment and employment decisions within the GBA.

In response, Mr Zhang reassured participants that the Commerce Department remains committed to supporting the growth of foreign businesses in Guangdong. He expressed the department's willingness to actively address and resolve any challenges raised by the European Chamber, emphasising a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

The meeting served as a valuable platform for open dialogue and cooperation between European and American organizations and the Guangdong Department of Commerce.
