Shanghai Government Dialogue with Shanghai Vice Mayor Hua Yuan

On 10th March, the European Chamber hosted its first Shanghai Government Dialogue in 2023 with Shanghai Vice Mayor Hua Yuan, representatives of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, and other relevant municipal departments.

Ms Holly Lei, vice chair of the Shanghai Chapter, led a delegation of Advisory Council (AC) member company representatives who brought forward issues and recommendations shared by European businesses. The recommendations, raised in the Shanghai Position Paper 2023/2024 launched on 14th February, touch on topics including Shanghai’s regional headquarter and research and development (R&D) centre economy, international shipping and consumption centre construction, market access and opening, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), high-quality green development, and the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region. Representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission, the Municipal Finance Bureau, the Municipal Exit and Entry Administration and other departments addressed the issues raised by AC members during the meeting.

Vice Mayor Hua Yuan expressed his gratitude to the European Chamber and European businesses in Shanghai for their contribution to the economic and social development of Shanghai. He said that Shanghai will put greater effort into opening up and hoped that European enterprises will seize the opportunities of Shanghai's industrial, consumer and urban transformations to better participate in the development of Shanghai. Holly Lei appreciated the support from the city government to European companies and emphasised members’ interest for continued close collaboration and communication between the Shanghai government and our member companies.
