Carbon Emission Trading Scheme in China - Meeting with Shenzhen Emissions Exchange and Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences

On August 27th in Shenzhen representatives of the European companies met with China Emissions Exchange and Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion of China Academy of Science to discuss the developments of the Carbon ETS in Guangdong. This meeting focused on the development of the ETS pilot in Shenzhen as well as possibilities of using permits auction revenue to help the firms cut emissions, in a way to attract the firms to comply with the scheme. Importantly, the European Chamber addressed the market access issue in term of foreign companies participation in the ETS. The meeting concluded with EU Business in China Position Paper 2013/2014 handover by Francine Hajisotiriou, General Manager of the European Chamber, PRD Chapter to Huahui Peng, Manager of Trading Department of China Emissions Exchange. Ramesh Nadarajah, Global Director of Carbon Services and Energy Efficiency Department of TUV Rheinland Hong Kong Ltd. presented the Position Paper 2013/2014 to Daiqing Zhao, Deputy Director General of Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, China Academy of Science.
