Meeting with Jiangsu CCPIT on Future Cooperation

On 23rd October, Carlo D'Andrea, vice president (VP) of the European Chamber and chair of the Shanghai Board, welcomed Cong Sufeng, deputy director general (DDG) of Jiangsu China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to the Chamber’s Shanghai offices. DDG Cong gave a brief introduction to the Jiangsu CCPIT and called for communication and cooperation between Chinese and European businesses to be strengthened.

DDG Cong proposed that the CCPIT organise seminars, conferences as well as business match-making events with the European Chamber in order to better engage members of both organisations. VP D’Andrea agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation but also emphasised some of the pressing issues foreign companies currently face in Jiangsu Province, such as forced factory shutdowns and relocation due to local chemical incidents and rising environment standards. VP D’Andrea pointed out that unless these issues are solved in a timely manner, foreign business would have reservations about investing in the region going forward.

At the end of the meeting, Mr Cong invited Chamber leaders and members to attend a major event on intellectual property to be held in April 2020. The European Chamber agreed to follow up on the gathering and keep members informed about it.
