On 20 June 2019, Ms Helei Fu, Government Affairs Director of the European Chamber, attended a seminar on Shanghai's 14th Five-year-plan planning. The seminar was organized by Shanghai Development and Reform Research Institute, a think-tank affiliated with Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission. During the meeting, Ms Fu presented the key findings of the Business Confidence Survey. In particular, she highlighted a key challenge that the local European SMEs are facing in China and Shanghai - lack of access to government. As the backbone of the European economy, SMEs are playing a significantly important and indispensable role in innovation and technological development. Opening door wider to the European SMEs would help Shanghai achieve its goal to be China's innovation center.
