Meeting with DG Trade on GMM and Enzyme

2017-10-09 | Beijing, Shanghai

During this meeting, members of the European Chamber Agriculture, Food and Beverage (AFB) Working Group presented the registration procedure of food enzymes produced by modern biotech micro-organisms (GMMs) in China to Mr. Wolf-Martin Maier of DG Trade. Due to lack of coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and National Health and Family Planning Commission, the pending approvals have lasted for seven years, causing significant impact on food industry. The AFB Working Group has addressed the issue in the Position Paper 2017/2018 and looks forward the DG Trade to supporting the advocacy work. Mr. Maier said the EU Commission plans to arrange a study tour for the relevant Chinese officials to learn EU's best practice in this regards and welcomes the Chamber's input and recommendations.
