EU Tour – Meeting with Commissioner Jourova, DG JUST

-   JW provided an overview of the key messages of the position paper.

-   By touching upon the lack of openness regarding foreign investments in China and lack of reciprocity, JW hinted the study of Made in China 2025 the European Chamber will publish in March and the messages contained therein.

-   JW also illustrated China economic outlook, stressing the existence of regulatory barriers and the absence of a level playing field for European companies.

-   Commissioner Jourova stressed the importance of the Chinese market, especially considering the recent political developments in the US and the halting of TTIP negotiations. In this context, a horizontal China-tailored action at the Commission level would be helpful.

-   Commissioner Jourova flagged product safety, particularly in the toys industry, as a main concern for the Europe in the dialogue with the Chinese counterparts.

-   Data protection, the digital single market, the independence of judges were mentioned as potential topics for the EU-China Legal Affairs Dialogue.

-   Finally, Commissioner Jourova wanted to hear from the European industry representatives in China what actions the Commission shall undertake to help their businesses.
