Meeting with Director General of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration to Present Position Paper

On Monday 12th September, European Chamber General Manager Ioana Kraft, along with National Chair of the Chamber’s IPR Working Group, Elliot Papageorgiou had the opportunity to present Lv Guoqiang, Director General of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration with the 2016/2017 Position Paper. Elliot Papageorgiou expressed to DG Lv his sense that a lot of positive developments have been carried out in the field of IP in Shanghai over the past few years. Elliot also outlined the recommendations raised in the IPR  Working Group’s chapter of the Position Paper, covering the top issues raised by the group’s members which included inventiveness standards for utility models in other municipalities, limited technical appraisal centres and the case load issue for the IP Courts. He also acknowledged Shanghai’s outstanding level of IPR enforcement compared to other cities in China. 

 

Mr. Lv,  DG of SIPA welcomed the European Chamber's recommendations and indicated that the European Chamber’s Position Paper is always very well-received by the Shanghai patent authorities. Mr. Lv also welcomed future comments from the IPR Working Group on issues as they arise. In conclusion, looking forward to continued cooperation for the year to come, both sides agreed to continue close cooperation and the exchange of information with regards to IP issues.
