EU Tour – Working level meeting with Cabinet of President Tusk

At this meeting, an introduction was given to the European Chamber. Moreover, China’s economic situation and outlook and the impact of the economic slowdown on its reform and opening up process was discussed. The need for an ambitious Europe-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment was also discussed. Furthermore, the following points were stressed:

  • It is      important for EU businesses operating in China that Europe speaks with one      voice.
  • Public      procurement is not making progress in China, which is against WTO rules.
  • The      EU should be more active on economic diplomacy.
  • The Shanghai Free Trade Zone should      bring about more and faster reforms.

·         A date for the EU-China Summit taking place in Beijing should be fixed asap in order to be able to organise a parallel event with the business community.

Finally, it was said that President Tusk will participate in the EU-China Summit in Beijing and he will attend the G20 summit in Hangzhou in September.
