The German Chamber of Commerce in China | Shanghai (GCC Shanghai) is the representative organization for German companies in Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Henan and Hubei. As part of the world-wide German Chamber network, the mission of the GCC Shanghai is to promote economic ties between the Federal Republic of Germany and the People’s Republic of China with a special focus on its geographical area. With about 1600 member companies, the GCC Shanghai provides a forum for its members and advocates member interests with relevant organizations. The GCC Shanghai, together with the Delegation of German Industry & Commerce and the German Industry & Commerce are the overall platform for Sino-German trade and industry promotion abroad.
Job description
For a period of 3-6 months. We offer you the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated, dynamic team in a challenging, international environment with plenty of room for your own ideas and creativity.
In this role, you will support the German Chamber’s communications team in all external communications, PR and editorial tasks.
Tasks will consist in, but are not limited to:
Supporting the production of key Chamber publications including the bi-monthly China-wide business magazine German Chamber Ticker and Annual Report.
- Managing development, distribution, and maintenance of all other print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures and business reports
- Supporting the drafting of press releases, preparation of press conferences and other media events
- Implementing and expanding the Chamber’s social media strategy and newsletter content generation
- Carrying out other general communications and marketing tasks that may arise such as production of corporate videos and marketing collaterals
- As part of the Chamber team, you are also expected to attend important Chamber events, including our monthly Chamber Meetings and the annual German Ball, as well as occasionally taking minutes and provide general research, statistical and analytical work.
Skills & experience
- Mandatory: Student at a Chinese University (X Visa) with the permission of the university to carry out an “off campus internship”
- Excellent command of both German (native speaker) and English (native or near-native level), Chinese is a plus
- Strong command of the written word and an interest in current affairs and China business issues as they relate to German business
- Bachelor Degree or higher (Majors: English, International Business, Chinese, Journalism, Media/PR, Marketing/Communications, International Relations, etc.)
- Professional experience in the field of communications, editing or journalism preferred
- Extremely detail-oriented
- Cultural sensitivity and eagerness to work in an international environment
- Solid MS Office skills a must, knowledge of InDesign a plus
