The Shanghai Chapter Board Election, where the Chair of the Shanghai Chapter Board (1 position), Vice Chair (2 positions) and Board Member (4 positions) are elected for a two-year term (2023-2025), will take place on Thursday 18th May 2023 at 3:30 pm at European Chamber Shanghai office.

Who can run for Shanghai Chapter Board Election?
1. Chair (1 position) – Any representative of a corporate member of the European Chamber
2. Vice Chair (2 positions) - Any representative of a corporate member of the European Chamber
3. Board Member (4 positions) – Any representative of a corporate member of the European Chamber and any individual member (Please note that individual members need pre-approval from the Executive Committee of the European Chamber to run for this position).
The chair, vice chairs and board members shall be elected for a two-year term (2023-2025).
Who can vote?
You can vote at the elections if you:
1. Are a designated representative (the primary contact between the European Chamber and your company), or
2. Are an individual member; and
3. Paid the membership fee for the year 2023 and have no outstanding payment (please make sure that the Chamber has received and confirmed your membership payment and any other outstanding payment by no later than Wednesday, 17th May 2023, 9 am, China time).
How can I vote?
The Articles of Association approved during the AGM in 2016 have made the AGM and local board elections more convenient and practical for our members by introducing the e-voting form. You are welcome to cast your vote either in person, by e-voting, or designating a proxy to vote on your behalf. Please see below for more information:
1) In person by secret ballot at the election venue on Thursday, 18th May 2023. Please note that even if you have voting rights confirmed by the Secretariat of the Chamber, you must have registered for the Shanghai Chapter Board Election by Wednesday, 17th May 2023, 5 pm in order to exercise this vote.
2) Electronic voting: Open from Monday, 8th May 2023, 10 am to Wednesday, 17th May 2023, 10 am by accessing a designated link using your European Chamber user account e-mail. Please note that the voting information will be sent to the designated representative of your company once the candidates have been confirmed.
3) Assign a proxy to vote on your behalf by Monday, 15th May 2023, 5 pm. Please fill in the proxy form and send a scanned copy to Ms Mengting Dai at mtdai@europeanchamber.com.cn, or in person at the Chamber office in Shanghai (Unit 2204, Shui On Plaza, 333 Huai Hai Zhong Road, Shanghai).
The proxy must be a colleague from your legal entity. This requirement has only one exception for the Individual member, who may assign his/her proxy to another individual member/corporate member with voting rights in Shanghai. However, an individual person can only hold a maximum of 5 proxies.
Proxies received after the deadline or in a format different from those listed above will not be accepted.
How can I run for elections?
The nomination period will open on Friday, 14th April 2023, 6 pm and close on Wednesday, 26th April 2023, 6 pm. Nomination Form and Motivation Letter to be returned complete to Shanghai Chapter in person or by e-mail to Mr Steven Basart at gmshanghai@europeanchamber.com.cn before 26th April 2023, 6 pm.

The Election Commissions at both national and liaison office levels have been created with the mission to:1) promote a strong and diversified European Union business identity at the Board level (ExCo and liaison office boards); 2) improve consistency, transparency and efficiency of the Chamber’s ExCo and liaison office boards election processes; and 3) reinforce the competencies of Boards (ExCo and liaison office boards) aligned with the Chamber’s original core mission.

Mr. Joerg Wuttke
Joerg Wuttke is Chief Representative of BASF China, based in Beijing. Wuttke is President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China – an office he already held from 2007 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2017. Wuttke contributes regularly to the Swiss financial blog https://themarket.ch/. He has lived in Beijing for more than three decades.

Ms. Bettina Schoen-Behanzin
Bettina Schoen-Behanzin entered Freudenberg Group in October 2012. As Regional Representative Asia she has been leading the Regional Corporate Center, based in Shanghai, China and is providing guidance and support for strategic planning and business development for the Freudenberg Business Groups in the region. From March 2008 to September 2012 she served as Managing Director of Wittur Elevator Components, China. She assumed the role of Managing Director of Rittal Electro-Mechanical Technology, China from 2000 to 2008, after having been the General Manager of Rittal in China as well as Sales and Marketing Manager of Rittal in Singapore. She had joined the Rittal Headquarters in Germany in 1992.
Bettina Schoen-Behanzin has acquired a Master degree in Sinology, Business Economics and Political Science at the Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany. Furthermore, she did Post-Graduate Studies of Chinese and Economics at Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
Speaking Chinese fluently, Bettina Schoen-Behanzin has around 25 years of working experience in Asia, mostly in China, leading operational business as well acting in corporate functions. From April 2014 to April 2016 she served as Director of the Board of the German Chamber Shanghai, being reelected in April 2016 and April 2018 as President of the Board of the German Chamber Shanghai. In 2019, she was the first German woman to receive Shanghai Municipal Government’s Magnolia Gold Award.
