THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT!
The European Chamber in Shanghai is pleased to invite you to a cultural seminar exploring the social life of Europeans in Asia from the 16th through the 19th centuries.
The topic Those Days in the Far East, A Glimpse into the Past will be addressed by Mr. Thomas Brandt, author of the book "Asia in those days" where he illustrates early European life in Asia by way of some 450 visual images consisting of photographs, lithographs, cooper and steel engravings. These images are complemented by more than 150 extracts from historical travel reports and clippings from the first English language newspapers published by Europeans in Asia.

The presentation will take place in the old villa The Mansion, designed in 1919 by the Hungarian architect Ladislaus Edward Hudec. It was built for Sir Robert Ho, a successful businessman from Hong Kong who lived in the building with his family until 1949. Much of the architecture including the design and building characteristics are typically neoclassical, giving it a real sense of character and elegance.
The building architecture coupled with the tranquillity of its garden and fountain makes this a truly special environment for a pleasant and memorable glimpse into the past of Asia!
Drinks and finger food will be served during the evening.
