Europe Day 2010”, an event hosted by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (Pearl River Delta Chapter), in association with the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in China (South China) on 14th May 2010, celebrated the deep Sino-European economic ties and manifested European companies’ commitment to Guangzhou as an attractive investment location.

At this special event, the Deputy Director-General of BOFTEC led his bureau to introduce to European companies in what way and in which industries Guangzhou is an attractive investment location. During his speech, he outlined how Guangzhou is moving away from labour intensive industries and up the value chain, outlining the future development of Guangzhou, which will be driven by pillar industries. As showcased in events such as this one, the Guangzhou investment authorities are actively approaching companies to present Guangzhou’s benefits and incentives.

In his opening remarks in this event celebrating Europe’s values and unity, Mr. Alberto Vettoretti, Chairman of the European Chamber PRD Chapter, pointed out the importance of China to Europe, illustrated in Guangzhou by the increased number of European invested enterprises there. He pointed out that pillar industries such as Logistics have a future in Guangzhou, especially due to Guangzhou’s favourable location as a bridge between North and South Asia and central position in one of the most important manufacturing bases in China, accounting for 29.9% of Chinese exports. In its mission to represent the EU companies in China and to be the bridge between the companies and the Chinese authorities, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China remains committed to China, therefore wishes to facilitate business environment and hope that such informative events contribute to achieve it.

The President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in China (South China), Mr. David A. Lopez Martin, added that the cooperation between European institutions, cooperation between European companies and the understanding of how we can work together with Chinese authorities and companies is the secret to European success in this complex market.

The EU-China trade ranks number one of all bilateral trade. This achievement is the result of ever closer and more confident relations, especially in the realm of investment and trade. Companies such as Lucta (Guangzhou) Flavours Co., Ltd., a fragrant manufacturer, and TUV Rheinland, a certification company, have invested in Guangzhou for many years, leveraging the vibrant investment environment. A visit to Nansha Development District, the future of Guangzhou, rounded off the successful event.
