On 24th April, the European Parliament voted and adopted the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), meaning it is now a legal responsibility for companies in the European Union (EU) to comply with the sustainability legislation and regulations indicated in the directive. Not complying with, or violating, legal requirements will lead to a significant financial or social impact for the company to bear.
While CSDDD is taking into effect in the EU, the directive also influences companies currently doing business in China. The impact of CSDDD spreads across the entire supply chain, potentially impacting all business partners and more importantly, the value chain. The due diligence expectations of CSDDD mean companies need to have awareness of the directive and prepare for the practical actions necessary for the company’s supply chain to comply.

As part of its 30/60 carbon neutrality goals, China set a goal for renewable energy to exceed fossil fuel capacity by 2025. Additionally, China’s Green Energy Certificate (GEC) scheme is set to enter a new stage, with it becoming the sole instrument to track renewable energy consumption in China.
