The European Chamber’s Automotive Working Group is delighted to invite you to attend the working group meeting on Wednesday 22^nd March which will include two major agenda, 1) keynote speeches on power battery and 2) working group internal discussion.

Session I: Keynote speeches on power battery. In December 2022, EU made new progress in battery regulation by which rules will cover the entire battery life cycle, from design to end-of-life and apply to all types of batteries sold in the EU, that will make profound impact on NEV manufacturers. In the meanwhile, Chinese authorities are intensively working on the Chinese version of the regulation. We are very honored to invite speakers from the EU Delegation and CATARC to give an in-depth introduction of the European and Chinese battery policy development.    

Session II: Automotive WG internal discussion. On this occasion, we will guide you through the key advocacy activities done by the Automotive WG in 2022 and have a small brainstorm session for next year’s working plan. As one of the Chamber’s key advocacy tools, the annual Position Paper (PP) has always received a great deal of attention from the Chinese and EU authorities. The lead pens will present the key recommendations of this year’s PP and collect members’ feedback. (More lead pens are wanted, please contact me for details.) Last, the chair/vice-chair election will be conducted.

Laurent Bardon has been the Head of the Green Transition Section at the Delegation of the European Union to the People’s Republic of China since September 2022. He was until then the Head of the Trade and Economic Section at the EU Delegation to Russia, in charge of a wide range of policy areas including climate change, energy and the environment. Laurent started working on EU-China relation in the 2000s, participating in the creation of a bilateral trade and environment working group, involving MofCOM and SEPA on China’s side. Laurent also worked on bilateral trade relations and was involved in the negotiation of a number of bilateral Summit statements. Laurent was also posted in Tokyo where he laid the ground for FTA negotiations between the EU and Japan. Laurent graduated from ESCP Business School and Sciences Po Paris and holds degrees in Economics and in Law.

Ziqi Xu is mainly engaged in the research of key technologies and industrial development in the field of NEV and "double carbon" coordinated development. He carried out long-term follow-up research and interpretation of the EU battery law. He studied the development trend of NEV traction battery policy standards. He carried out research on policies and industrial development trends such as NEV safety, charging infrastructure and so on.
