Beijing, 30th November 2009 -- The 5th EU-China Business Summit co-organised by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) was held today in Nanjing. The Summit brought together more than 600 senior business leaders from the EU and China to exchange views on the theme of "The Green Agenda: Sustaining Growth Beyond the Recovery".

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and Swedish Premier Fredrik Reinfeldt delivered the keynote addresses at this year’s event.

Joerg Wuttke, President of the European Chamber said: "European businesses greatly value this opportunity for candid, high-level dialogue between political and business leaders from both sides. We are pleased that many of the urgent issues in the EU-China trade dialogue have been addressed today, including solutions to the climate change challenge, measures necessary to maintain a healthy trade relationship and cooperation on achieving a sustainable economic recovery. We echo the call expressed in the joint declaration for governments on both sides to take practical measures to avoid protectionism and improve the business environment for all in an open and non-discriminatory manner.
