The guessing game for the possible outcomes of the United States elections is over. For past months US allies have been patiently waiting for US elections results, hoping for restoration of world order. New foreign policy measures are not uncommon when an administration takes office; will this mean ally cooperation against China? Further de-coupling?

Our guests in this Webinar are ideally positioned to share their expertise on what is next for the geopolitical atmosphere, specially so from the Europe-US and India-US perspective.

At the moment it is hard to focus on anything other than the US elections, given the powerful geopolitical implications the results will bring. A Biden win would likely mean an increase in democratic left-wing influence in US politics, possibly a revival of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and an EU-US coordinated approach towards China, amongst numerous other possibilities. A Trump win would likely mean the status quo, aside from uncertainty and hundreds of tweets, further decoupling and deterioration of EU-US alliance.

What can we expect from the President of the United States in the years to come?

Although the pandemic abruptly halted Asia’s momentum as a rising economy, after this crisis the region plans to be well on its way to making the ‘Asian Century’ a reality. Excluding newly industrialized economies in Asia, regional growth is estimated at 6.6% in 2021, according to the Asian Development Bank. Asia’s leaders are faced with an array of challenges when looking to continue growth, considering institutional, financial, environmental transformations amongst many others are needed to make this possible.

Will Asia turn to its European counterparts for guidance? How should Europe engage? Inevitably, how will the upcoming US elections play a role in this relationship?

Despite presenting serious challenges throughout 2020, COVID-19 has not managed to impact the ineluctable roll-out of new, significant pieces of Cybersecurity implementation rules and draft laws in China. One notable release was the draft Data Security Law in July 2020. China’s determination to more-stringently regulate its cyberspace have been paralleled by a doubling of compliance endeavours from foreign businesses in China, which has increased both the cost and the operational burden of doing business, at least in the short-term.
In order to examine how the Cybersecurity Law and the Data Security Draft Law will coexist, and what the long-term impact will be on European companies operating in China, the European Chamber as assembled a distinguished group of government representatives, lawyers, security experts and industry representatives to discuss this topic at its annual Cybersecurity Conference.

First introduced at a politburo meeting in May, the new ‘dual circulation’ strategy (DCS) has immediately become a buzzword and been widely discussed both home and abroad. The strategy envisions a new economic development mode by relying less on global integration and expanding domestic reliance.
