The long-awaited, revised Standardisation Law was promulgated by the National People’s Congress on 4 November, 2017, bringing significant changes to the previous standardisation system. In June of this year, The New York Times warned that “as China moves to start enforcing a new cybersecurity law, foreign companies face a major problem: They know very little about it.” Though the Times may be guilty of hyperbole, while the implementing rules are still being formulated a lot of guess work remains on how this incredibly broad piece of legislation will actually be enforced.
