Instead of the strong economic rebound that businesses had hoped for, China’s reopening in 2023 brought more uncertainties for European firms operating in the country. China’s deeper structural issues—including sluggish demand, high levels of local government debt and the continued challenges in the real estate sector—continued to weigh on the prospects of both domestic and foreign companies, and the economy overall.

The European Chamber provides a leadership development platform through the Cross-Industry Mentor Initiative (CIMI) and encourages potential future female leaders to step up to the C-suite level. As part of the CIMI, we will organise a series of activities and invite speakers from different sectors to tell their stories and share their experiences in leadership.

China will convene its most important political meetings on 4th March, known as the Two Sessions (Lianghui) joining two main political bodies of China, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Over the course of a week, China’s plans and policies relating to economy, military, trade, diplomacy, the environment among others will be outlined. One of the main points on the agenda is to approve the 2021-25 14th Five-Year Plan.This event will provide business leaders and decision makers with an important insight into the implications the Two Sessions will have on their businesses, the economy and the future of China.
