Green Supply Chain Management: Empowering SME Suppliers

The EU SME Centre and the European Chamber Carbon Market Working Group are glad to invite Director Ma Jun from the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and industry players across China to explore the recent practices on corporate green supply chain management, the critical role of SMEs and challenges they face, and the different approaches large enterprises can adopt to support their SME partners throughout the supply chain to improve their environmental performance.

To make sense of the host of announcements during the 2024 Two Sessions and what they mean for China’s economic, foreign policy and political trajectory, Neil Thomas, Fellow on Chinese Politics at Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis, and Dan Wang, Chief Economist at Hang Seng Bank, will join on and offline our upcoming Policy Meeting, which will take place on Tuesday 19th March from 9:00-10:30 at the Four Seasons Hotel Beijing. The meeting will be off-the-record and held under Chatham House rules.

China is not the same place to do business that it was just a few short years ago. For the right companies and adventurous entrepreneurs, however, this new economic reality can offer not just challenges, but opportunities.
While the days of blockbuster growth may be over, measures introduced by the central government during this month’s Two Sessions could demonstrate a recognition of the need to stimulate sustainable, high-quality growth. Whether these initiatives are enough to help China navigate the significant headwinds that it faces – including everything from demographics to sluggish global demand and the unpredictable results of the upcoming US election – remains to be seen. Furthermore, a continuing shift in focus away from business and the economy toward politics and security raises questions as to the future shape of China’s economic landscape. Nevertheless, the Chinese market remains vast, with an entrepreneurial population and a foothold in some of tomorrow’s vital industries, like electric vehicles and solar energy.
