The year 2022 marks the tenth year of the aviation industry’s inclusion in the EU emissions trading system (ETS), the world’s first international ETS. Over the last ten years, airlines operating in Europe have been required to monitor, report and verify their CO2 emissions. On top of this, the EU’s Fit for 55 legislation puts additional pressure on European aviation companies to decarbonise. China has also laid down an extremely ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 since 2020. According to 14th Five-year Special Plan for Green Development of Civil Aviation by CAAC, China is targeting an increase in utilisation of SAFs by 50,000 tonnes from 2021 to 2025 and promotion of the development of electric and gas-electric aeroplanes. However, according to the recently-released Carbon Neutrality report by the Chamber, over a third of companies surveyed for this report identified that one of the main areas in which China can cooperate with the EU is in formulating its overall decarbonisation plan.
Against this background, the European Chamber is honored to invite Mr Octavian STAMATE, Counsellor for Climate Action and Energy of Delegation of the European Union to China, to share his insights on European Union Decarbonisation Policies and Impact on Transportation Industry. This meeting is scheduled to be held from 10:00-11:30 on Wednesday 13th July 2022.
