[Italian Design Day (IDD)] - the Consulate General of Italy has organized a Seminar about “Discussing Sustainability, Designing the Future”

In the framework of the Italian Design Day (IDD), the Consulate General of Italy has organized a Seminar about “Discussing Sustainability, Designing the Future”.

Italian Design Day is an annual event launched in 2017 by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration and with the support of the Ministry of Culture to promote Italian design.

The theme of the 2021 Italian Design Day is “Project and materials: new challenges for the sustainable recovery of the Made in Italy” and it is closely linked to the proactive capacity of Italian design and the extended Made in Italy system to think up ever newer development scenarios, capable of overcoming self-referential rhetoric and keeping the improvement of our lives and the protection of the planet at the center of what is on offer.

This year, the IDD is held at Shenzhen Sea World Culture and Arts Center – Mountain View Theatre, on November 12th, in line with the theme of the exhibition 3CODESIGN: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse, displayed in the same venue.  54 works, an overview of Italian Design that turns into Ecodesign, contributing to the construction of a new artificial ecology. Trend reversal with respect to the production methods and design strategies applied during the 1900s. An overall and radical rethinking of the production model focused on over-exploitation of resources.

The ethical and environmental need to rethink production processes for the well-being of future generations, as a form of responsibility and sharing.

Reduce the use and waste of raw materials and the impact on the environment;

Recycle what has been consumed, starting with plastic;

Reuse and give a second life to squandered or apparently outdated products

The exhibition 3CODESIGN created the perfect opportunity for Italian designers and their Chinese counterparts to “Discussing Sustainability, Designing the Future” under a manufacturing point of view with the participation of speakers of the industrial world. (See Program attached).

The Seminar takes place on the same day of the conclusion of COP26 - Conference of the Parties’- UN Climate Change Conference, in Glasgow. Climate change is a global and historic challenge, the decade out to 2030 will be crucial.

The global response to the climate emergency should involve all sectors of social, productive and creative life. We need to work together to protect our planet.

In this regard, the Seminar will bring together the issues of climate, design, industry and art.

We need to work together to protect our planet. Each one of us can make the difference, changing our daily habits: reduce, reuse, recycle

The national and international targets cannot be achieved if we do not all commit ourselves personally.
