European Chamber Co-hosted the 2023 China-Europe Track II Digital Dialogue with the Cyber Security Association of China (CSAC)

On 24th March, the 2023 China-Europe Track II Digital Dialogue, jointly hosted by the European Chamber and the Cyber Security Association of China (CSAC), took place in Beijing. European Chamber Vice President (VP) Carlo Diego D’ Andrea and CSAC General Secretary Li Yuxiao delivered opening remarks. European Chamber Secretary General Adam Dunnett presided over the meeting.

VP D’ Andrea stated European business community has always been attracted to China's innovative power across industries. He said digitalisation plays a fundamental role in the economic and social progress of both the European Union and China, and both are emphasising the importance of data protection and cybersecurity from different starting points, with strong potential for cooperation. Understanding each other and best practice sharing can help both European and Chinese companies progress towards a more secure digital environment.

VP D’Andrea said that to enable rapid and uninhibited growth of the digital economy, the European Chamber calls for a business environment where data should flow compliantly and smoothly across borders.

Topics discussed during the event included ‘Regulatory Rules for Cross-border Data Flow’, ‘Global Digital Cooperation Opportunities and China-Europe Digital Cooperation’ and ‘China-Europe Digital Talent Training Cooperation’. European Chamber Cybersecurity Sub-Working Group Vice Chair Isabelle Hajjar gave a keynote speech on the challenges of cross-border data transfer under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. More than 80 guests from European and Chinese governments, industry organisations, research institutions, universities and enterprises participated both online and offline.
