Food & Beverage and Wine and Spirits WG celebrate AQSIQ Notice

The European Chamber is pleased to announce that according to a notice on Adjustment of Regulation on Food and Cosmetics Labelling Verification issued on the 24th of March from 1st of April 2006 the pre-labelling verification will be lifted. From this date on the labelling verification of import and export food and cosmetics will be combined with the quarantine and inspection procedure carried out by the local CIQ.

As one of the Food and Beverage Working Group's Key Recommendations in the 2005 edition of the Chamber's Position Paper, member companies are delighted with this step that lets them hope that the process of importing food and beverage products into China will be significantly sped up. The members of the Food and Beverage and Wine and Spirits WGs praise AQSIQ's willingness to take into consideration the concerns of European importers of food and beverage products.

Due to the pre-labelling requirement the process of importing food and beverage products was costly and time-consuming. It was only possible to apply for the label registration and obtain this certification through AQSIQ in Beijing. Moreover this application process created an unnecessary workload for both the importer and the authority and made it almost impossible for importers to launch certain products on the Chinese market.
