Following the turmoil of the French elections and the temporary respite facilitated by the sportsmanship feats of the Paris Olympics, France is back to grappling with a divided political landscape and uncertainties on its future policy and political direction. As a key player in the EU’s internal dynamics, France’s choices are bound to significantly influence the bloc's approaches to and stances on international affairs, trade policies, and strategic partnerships. Meanwhile, when it comes to EU-China relations, France has been seen as a key Member State agenda-setter by Chinese leaders, and President Macron has frequently endeavoured to present a unified Franco-European front by inviting Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to join him as well . How will France’s new political and leadership landscape affect both the internal dynamics within the EU and policy choices on trade, competition, industrial, foreign and security policies, particularly vis-à-vis China?
Join us on 19th September for a discussion on the implications of the 2024 French Parliamentary Elections and France’s broader political landscape on the dynamic relationship between the EU and China.
Our esteemed speakers will share their perspectives on above issues and engage in a thought-provoking discussion, analysing the current trends post-French elections and their ripple effects in the EU-China relationship.
*This will be a hybrid public event conducted both offline and online via Teams.
*The event is held in English with no translation services and off the record.
