China's top banking regulator warns of credit risks
China's top banking regulator April 16, 2009 urged the country's lenders to prevent the risk of bad loans when increasing credit support for the slowing economy. Chinese banks must be "on high alert for the accumulation of hidden risks as loans surge" and balance business growth and risk control, said Liu Mingkang, chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), in a CBRC statement issued April 16, 2009.
Nation to maintain stable yuan
China said on April 16, 2009 it will stick to its policy of maintaining a stable exchange rate, after the US Treasury Department said the yuan is undervalued.
China Mar Crude Steel Output 45.1M Tons, Down 0.3% On Year
China's crude-steel output in March declined 0.3% from a year earlier to 45.1 million metric tons, the National Bureau of Statistics said Friday.
China fixed asset investment rises 28.8% in Q1
China's fixed asset investment in the first quarter rose 28.8 percent year on year to 2.81 trillion yuan ($411.4 billion), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced April 16, 2009. The growth rate was 4.2 percentage points higher than the year before, said NBS spokesman Li Xiaochao.
China's GDP up 6.1% in Q1
Figures just released by China's National Bureau of Statistics show China's GDP growth continued to slow to 6.1 percent in the first quarter. But other economic data indicates the economy is beginning to stabilize.
