On 4th June, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. at the sidelines of the WTO Trade Ministerial meeting The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including the international economic and trade landscape and deepening practical cooperation (MOFCOM news).
On 4th June, at the WTO Trade Minister ministerial Meeting, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao urged WTO for stronger oversight of unilateral tariffs, and underlined China’s commitment to WTO reform including restoring the functioning of the WTO Dispute Settlement mechanism, in a meeting with WTO Director-Gernal Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. On 4th June, French Junior Minister for Foreign Trade Franck Riester met with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. The two sides exchanged views on key issues in China-France economic and trade cooperation (MOFCOM news, X post).
On 9th-10th June, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds in London. The two sides agreed to hold the 14th China-UK Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) meeting at an early date and advance cooperation in various fields of economy and trade (MOFCOM news, Reuters).
On 10th June, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ended two days of talks under the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism with both sides agreeing on a framework to implement a trade deal (Reuters, MOFCOM news, AP news).
On 10th June, at the “Visegrad 4 Business Conference” the EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič, addressed ongoing tariff negotiations with the US and explained that both sides discussed participation of Chinese companies on the EU market and access to rare earths. The statement comes a week after a meeting of the EU Commissioner with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, on the sidelines of an OECD meeting, yielded no breakthrough. On 10th June, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce decided to extend the anti-dumping investigation period concerning imports of relevant pork and pork by-products originating from the European Union until December 16, 2025 (MOFCOM news).
On 10th June, the tenth progress report on the implementation of the 74 common proposals was endorsed by the EU and NATO Councils. The report stressed that shared security challenges such as Russia’s actions, instability in Europe’s Eastern and Southern neighbourhoods, rising tensions in the Western Balkans, and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, require further strengthening of the transatlantic cooperation (Council press release).
