Banking & Securities Chairs Election

The Banking & Securities Working Group will hold Chair elections on March 30.
The Chairperson and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group, including a leading role in the drafting of the annual Position Paper, in communicating key messages to Chinese and European government authorities, and in steering activities of the Working Group. The ideal Chair and Vice Chair is a senior industry representative with relevant expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the Working Group for 12 months. Previous participation in the Working Group is essential. Before applying for the position of Chair or Vice Chair, we recommend that you obtain approval from your company.
The maximum duration of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson position is three consecutive years. Only candidates who are physically based in China are eligible to run for Chair or Vice Chair positions.
The Banking & Securities Working Group is going to elect one Chair and two Vice Chairs (one in Beijing and one in Shanghai).

In current uncertain economic times, China and Shanghai are taking further actions to open up the financial system and become a more attractive place for international investment. Treasury & financing has traditionally been a highly restricted and regulated area in the Chinese business environment. While cross-border cash pools can offer an efficient way to move RMB and foreign exchange between group companies, there are plenty different models available which do face different regulatory frameworks and may come with different tax considerations. This seminar shall cut through that complexity, provide you with a hands-on overview about different cash pool schemes based on the latest regulatory changes and consider alternative treasury tools for your application.

The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to invite HSBC and PwC to address relevant aspects around setting up and operating cross-border cash pools.

Corporate venture capital (CVC) differs from independent venture capital (VC) in several ways when it comes to how it nurtures innovation in new firms and what metrics a CVC fund regards as important. Whereas the objective of a common VC fund may simply be to get an attractive financial return, CVC funds are generally more focused on the strategic fit of any potential investment with their companies’ own strategic orientation.

At the European Chamber’s Corporate Venture Capital Conference 2019, managers of CVC funds, advisers and academics will talk about what makes a CVC unit successful, what deals these units are looking at in their respective sectors – information technology and life sciences, among others – and what they think about this sector’s potential in China.
