Over the last decades, the lifestyle of Chinese residents has undergone significant changes due to the rapid processes of industrialisation, urbanisation, and population aging. This transformation has presented new challenges in the health domain. In response, the Chinese Government has prioritised 'Healthy China' since 2016.

This trend creates opportunities for biopharmaceutical companies, supported by favourable policies from local governments. Qidong Economic Development Zone, located in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, is one of the examples. With the life-health industry as one of its key pillars, it has issued subsidy policies and now boasts over 60 biopharmaceutical companies.

The European Chamber invites you to join this session for further insights into the future of the life-health domain.

Two Sessions 2024: What’s Next for Businesses
Fully booked

Every year, China’s ‘Two Sessions (Lianghui)’ convenes the national legislature and top political advisory body to discuss key political and economic issues and make central decisions. In 2024, the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) are set to be held in Beijing on the 4th and 5th March, respectively.
The Two Sessions hold significance for the international business community as they will establish the political and economic direction for China for 2024. In the preceding provincial Two Sessions, some key themes will be ‘new quality productivity’, ‘expanding domestic demand’, and ‘deepening reforms’, while seeking progress while maintaining stability, consolidating the foundation for economic recovery, and expanding high-level opening-up will be the main areas of focus.
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China cordially invites you on 19th March for in-depth analysis and insights into the implications of the Two Sessions on businesses, the economy and the future of China.

China's Economy and Industry Outlook for 2024
Fully booked

On March 5, 2024, Premier Li Qiang delivered the <<Report on the Work of the Government>> at the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress of China. Globally, economic recovery was slow, with increasing geopolitical tensions and rising protectionism. Domestically, China faced challenges in economic recovery due to the prolonged impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, exacerbated by existing structural issues and emerging risks in areas such as real estate and financial institutions.

In response to these challenges, the government outlined its tasks for 2024, including issuing ultra-long-term special government bonds and opening up new tracks in emerging fields like quantum technology and life sciences. Additionally, China plans to implement measures to further open up its economy, such as relaxing market access restrictions and promoting cross-border services trade.

To delve deeper into these issues and their implications for businesses, the European Chamber is pleased to host Mr. Xu Sitao, Chief Economist and partner at Deloitte China, to share his insights and forecasts on the economy. Mr. Xu brings extensive experience, having previously served as Chief Representative of China and EIU Forecasting Director at the Economist Group. We will also provide an opportunity for members to introduce themselves and engage in discussion.
