Since July 2014 the EU and 16 other members (Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Chinese Taipei, the European Union, Hong Kong (China), Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore, United States, Israel, Turkey and Iceland) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have been negotiating an Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) to remove barriers to trade in environmental or "green" goods that are crucial for environmental protection and climate change mitigation.

WTO members participating in the EGA negotiations are committed to intensify work this year in order to conclude the negotiations as soon as possible, using among others political milestones such as high level G20 meetings. Recently the 14th Round of Negotiations was finished in the week of 20th June 2016 in Geneva.

Since Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) is quite vital to environment/ energy business, we are delighted to invite negotiators from European Commission to share some recent updates about the EGA negotiations. The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join the next Auto Components Working Group Meeting: Changing Face of the Automotive Industry at 09:30-11:00, 6 July 2016 at the European Chamber Shanghai Office.

The automotive industry is going through major changes in the coming years. Disruptive technology will have their roles in shaping this industry. China’s automotive industry and structures are young and much more flexible compared to mature markets. Chinese executives are not bound in ‘old’ structures and believe in change and therefore much more in the impact to all segments. In addition, better connectivity enables them to co-ordinate established trends such as car-sharing and pooling schemes, which make better use of space in densely populated areas. As urbanization continues and as the Chinese economy and car sales experience slower growth, customer data could also become more lucrative than vehicle sales.
