The Compliance and Business Ethics Working Group is delighted to invite you to the 2022 Kick-off Meeting: Export control compliance, Chair Election, and Position Paper Discussion, to be held at 10.00 – 12.00, Wednesday, 30th March (arrival starts at 9.30), at the European Chamber’s Beijing Office and onlinevia Zoom. Due to the Covid policies in Shanghai, European Chamber Shanghai Office is temporarily closed. We will notify you later whether European Chamber Shanghai Office will open for this meeting. Note that this meeting is only open to members of the Compliance and Business Ethics Working Group.
The first part of the meeting is a talk on export control compliance in light of the current Ukraine-Russia war, by Dr David Pan, Partner and head of corporate compliance services group at Llinks Law Offices. Please find Dr Pan’s bio in attachment.
The second part of the meeting is the Working Group Chair & Vice-chairs Election. Candidates running for the election shall make a three- to five-minutes speech on the day to introduce themselves, state why they should be elected as well as their goals for the Working Group. In the case of a contested election, only Working Group members who have their registration confirmed for this meeting will have the right to vote, with one vote per company. Should you be interested in running, please send a short biography with photo and a motivation letter to Ms Lin Shi lshi@europeanchamber.com.cn no later than Wednesday, 23rd March, COB.
The third part of the meeting will be the 2022/3 Position Paper Discussion. All meeting attendees are invited to discuss what key advocacy issues to have in this year’s Compliance and Business Ethics Working Group’s Position Paper.

Working Group member interested in running for this year’s election should read the attached ‘Starter Kit for Chairs’ carefully, and take notice of the following:
The Chair and Vice-chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group, including a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to Chinese and European government authorities and steering Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice-chairs are a senior industry representative with relevant expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the Working Group. Previous participation in the Working Group is essential.
The maximum duration of the Chair or Vice-chair of a Working Group is three consecutive years. Candidates are only eligible for Chair or Vice-chair positions if he/she is physically based in China.
