Comments to NHC on Call for Comments on National Food Safety Standard General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods (Draft for Comments)
The European Chamber very much welcomes the National Health Commission(NHC)'s decision to collect opinions on the National Food Safety Standard General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods (Draft for Comments). Upon careful study of the draft, the European Chamber Agriculture, Food and Beverage Working Group, Paediatric Nutrition Working Group, Food for Special Medical Purposes Working Group, and Cheese Working Group have collated all member inputs and submitted them to the SAMR for their consideration. The Call for Comments started on 31 Dec, 2019.

The Paediatric Nutrition Sub-Working Group and the Food for Special Medical Purposes Advisory Committee submitted a lobby letter to the Legislation Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to raise suggestions on the Administrative Measures on Food Labeling, which begin public consultation in December, 2019.

The Paediatric Nutrition Working Group, Cheese Working Group, and Food for Special Medical Purpose Advisory Committee had a meeting with officials from the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission. They were briefed the latest regulatory updates of China's food sector and the current difficulty of the special food in China. Also, both sides exchanged ideas on EUCCC's activity planning for the year of 2020 and the proposal of having a training in the Europe in September was much welcome by the European side.

The Food for Special Medical Purpose Advisory Committee submitted a meeting request to the Bureau of Import and Export Food Safety of the General Administration of Customs, P.R.CHIINA. Upon the issue of the Regulations on the Administration of Registration of Overseas Food Manufacturing Enterprises (Consultation Draft), the industry and foreign trade partners are concerned with the latest regulatory concepts proposed by this Draft. It is in line with the industry's interests to invite officials from the Bureau to share their interpretation of this draft.

The Agriculture Counsellor Damien Plan paid a visit to the Chamber on 15 January to exchange ideas on the working strategies of the year of 2020. Concerns were raised regarding three important public consultation issued recently. Both sides agreed to cooperate in organizing a seminar with the competent authorities on General Administration of Customs' document on oversea food manufacturing enterprises. Also, EU Tour-related topics were discussed and potential event cooperation on the EU food quality promotion campaign was considered.
