European Chamber Spoke at the 2024 IGEA New Year's Symposium for Foreign Embassies in China and International Organizations

On 19th January, Mr. Renato Roldão and Mr. Gianni Di Giovanni, States' Representatives of the European Chamber, spoke at the New Year's Symposium for Foreign Embassies in China and International Organizations hosted by the International Green Economy Association (IGEA). They congratulated on the achievements of the IGEA, introduced the relevant Working Groups (Energy, Environment and Carbon Market) and the Carbon Neutrality Action (CNA) initiative of the Chamber, and hoped for further cooperation with the IGEA in 2024.

Meeting with the Clean Energy Industry Association of Inner Mongolia

On 19th January, Energy Working Group representative met with Zhang Nan, President of the Inner Mongolia Clean Energy Industry Association. The Inner Mongolia Clean Energy Industry Association was officially launched in Hohhot in 2021, marking the first industrial association to focus on clean energy in the autonomous region. At present, there are more than 20,000 clean energy companies in the autonomous region.

COCIR China Representatives Met IEC Expert

A meeting was held between COCIR China representatives and IEC expert to discuss standards development and collaboration. Key points covered include obstacles in developing international standards, current Chinese AI/ML and Reliability Standards, business risks of Chinese national standards, training sessions, concerns about the speed of IEC, and the procedure to approve international standards. Next steps include sharing information with members, organising a training session, and advocating for more European companies to join relevant committees.

Joint WG Meeting on the Latest Decarbonisation Policies and Actions in the EU and China with Mr. Rainer Emschermann from DG CLIMA

On Thursday 18th January, the European Chamber organised a joint WG meeting with Mr. Rainer Emschermann, Policy Officer at Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), European Commission, on the EU’s climate and green transition policy landscape and regulations at the heart of the EU’s decarbonisation agenda. Mr. Renato Roldão, States' Representative, European Chamber, gave the opening remarks and moderated the whole session. Representatives from various WGs such as energy, carbon market, aviation and aerospace, maritime manufacturing and industrial services, and automotive, elaborated on China’s green transition push from the perspective of EU businesses in the panel discussion.

On 17th January 2024, the European Chamber Paediatric Nutrition Desk and Food for Special Medical Purposes Advisory Committee participated in a government meeting with Liang Dong from the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) to discuss the draft of the National Food Safety Standard General Standard on Infant Formulae for Special Medical Purposes (GB 25596) interpretation with the representatives of industry.
