European Chamber Clean Energy Business Tour to Inner Mongolia

From 14th to 16th May, a delegation of 30 European Chamber representatives met with key stakeholders in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and conducted field visits to clean energy projects and equipment manufacturing bases in Hohhot, Baotou and Ordos. This exclusive tour was organised by the European Chamber’s Energy and Maritime Manufacturing and Industrial Services working groups, in collaboration with the Inner Mongolia Clean Energy Industry Association.

Inner Mongolia’s wind and solar energy resources rank first and second in China, respectively. In 2023, the region led all Chinese provinces in three records: the highest newly installed capacity, accumulative capacity and electricity generation from renewable energy sources.

On 15th May, Peter Ling-Vannerus, a member of the European Chamber’s Executive Committee, along with Clement Lix and Yanzhong Li, vice chairs of the Energy Working Group, and other corporate executives, had a closed-door meeting with Bai Qingyuan, vice chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Bai was joined by local officials from Inner Mongolia’s Department of Industry and Information Technology, Department of Commerce and the Energy Bureau.

Also on 15th May, Clean Energy Industry Development Symposium was held. Local departments of Hohhot introduced the business environment and industrial policies, as well as the development plan of the clean energy industry in Inner Mongolia. Corporate representatives from Sinopec, Snam, Inner Mongolia Electric Power Group, Envision, Inner Mongolia Green Hydrogen Technology and Shanghai Yuan Huang Energy Technology exchanged topics including long-distance hydrogen transport, grid structure, green electricity trading, and production of green hydrogen, methanol and ammonia in the region, among others.

The delegation visited Inner Mongolia Power Trading Centre and Yili Modern Intelligent Health Valley in Hohhot, JA Solar Manufacturing Base and Mingyang New Energy Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Baotou, and Dalad Banner PV Power Base in the Kubuqi Desert, Ordos.

At the wrap-up meeting with Dalat Banner Government in Ordos, the European Chamber delegation noted Inner Mongolia’s and Dalat Banner’s abundant natural resources, strong industrial development and favourable business environment, and hoped to conduct extensive cooperation in areas such as solar, wind, aviation fuels, green methanol and cross-provincial transaction of green electricity.
