Vice President Zenkel Meets Guangdong CCPIT President

On 29th January, European Chamber vice president Klaus Zenkel, joined the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong Committee’s Annual Dinner, during which he had a VIP meeting with CCPIT president Mr Chen Xiaofeng.

VP Zenkel updated President Chen with the progress of the Chamber’s Business Confidence Survey 2024, scheduled to be launched in May, which will outline European companies’ sentiment on China’s business environment. Zenkel also noted the recent EU-Guangzhou Business Dialogue, which he participated in, and emphasised the importance of maintaining a policy communication platform between European companies local government, particularly with regard to developments in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). He also reported the challenge of IPR protection faced by European SMEs in China, expressing the need for stronger enforcement of intellectual property rights and proposing measures to combat counterfeiting, aiming to create a more secure business environment for SMEs.

President Chen emphasised China’s commitment to supporting foreign businesses in the GBA. He highlighted the GBA initiative, which will see events held in various GBA cities throughout 2024, noting that the European Chamber will be invited to participate in relevant thematic roundtable discussions.
