Chamber VP Guido Giacconi spoke in "Shandong Dialogue with Chambers of Commerce"

On 20th August 2021, European Chamber Vice President (VP) Guido Giacconi attended and spoke online at the Shandong Dialogue with Chambers of Commerce. Themed ‘New pattern, new drivers and new opportunities’, the main conference took place in Jinan with 16 sub-venues in various locations throughout Shandong Province. A total of 77 chambers of commerce participated online or onsite.

The conference started with a keynote speech from Liu Jiayi, secretary of the Communist Party of China Shandong Provincial Committee and chair of the Standing Committee of Shandong Provincial People’s Congress. Zhou Lianhua, director of the Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, outlined local government plans to transition from traditional drivers of growth to new drivers, and the development of the top ten leading industries in the province. Representatives from the European Chamber, Amcham, Japanese Association, China Federation of Industry and Commerce, China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association and Shandong Enterprise Chamber of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, were invited to deliver speeches in response to the Shandong provincial leaders.

VP Giacconi presented highlights of the European Chamber’s recently-published Business Confidence Survey 2021, and discussed potential areas in which the European Union and China could cooperate, in particular climate change, biodiversity, international development, World Trade Organization reform, international standards-setting and alignment on digitalisation.
