Meeting with Tianjin Commission of Commerce, Tianjin Industry and Information Bureau, Tianjin Healthcare Security Bureau

On 26th June, Mr Cheung Yup Fan, chair of the European Chamber Tianjin Chapter, led a delegation of members to meet with the Tianjin Commission of Commerce (TJMOFCOM), Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology (TJMIIT) and Tianjin Healthcare Security Administration (TJHSA). Ms Zeng Yan, deputy director general (DDG), TJMOFCOM, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Tianjin Municipal Government, saying she expected honest and open suggestions on how to improve the local business environment.

DDG Zeng said Tianjin’s economic growth increased by 4.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2019, while fully-utilised foreign investment increased by 4.14 per cent. She added that TJMOFCOM would like to understand and solve problems faced by foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) in Tianjin, especially against the backdrop of the US-China trade war. DDG Zeng said TJMOFCOM will aim to further improve the business environment and develop a closer relationship with European business.

Mr Cheung Yup Fan expressed his appreciation for the invitation from TJMOFCOM and made a brief introduction to the Chamber’s recent Business Confidence Survey 2019 before presenting it to DDG Zeng.

Officials from TJMIIT introduced the Measures on Intelligent Manufacturing Funding in Tianjin, which was released in 2018, and encouraged European business to apply for the funding.

Other topics discussed at the meeting included market access for the healthcare industry, policies on automotives and the environment and their implementation, employee recruitment and retention in the IT industry, dangerous chemical logistics, finance and taxation, the Foreign Investment Law, to name but a few.
